Ann Davey Masters Scholarship Recipients
September 9, 2015
Clean Valley Council is excited to announce the two recipients for the 2015 Ann Davey Masters (ADM) Memorial Scholarship. Ann Davey Masters was the much beloved and long-serving executive director for Clean Valley Council who had a passion to educate the youth about the environment as a means of creating a more sustainable future. Following her passing in 2009, the CVC with the support of her many dear friends and family, established the ADM Scholarship Fund. This year, two $1500 scholarships were offered, one to local high school seniors and one for local college students currently enrolled in environmentally related studies.
The recipients were chosen based on academic merit and a demonstrated passion and commitment to environmental stewardship. Lydia Hoepnner, Cave Spring High School valedictorian, will be attending Virginia Tech this fall. Beyond maintaining consistently high grades in her challenging courses, she is a senior staff member at the SWVA Wildlife Center and one of the youngest certified wildlife caretakers in Virginia. She held numerous leadership positions in extracurricular organizations, most notably as President of the Green Club where she began a school-wide recycling program, organized litter clean ups, and much more.
Theodore Bauer is currently working towards his B.S. in Environmental Science at Roanoke College. Teddy’s motivation to work towards bettering the environment is apparent in all he does. His leadership skills and passion led him to co-create a sustainable agricultural cooperative and a wolf-dog rescue, all while pursuing his college courses and maintaining high academic standing. Teddy exemplifies what it means to be an environmental steward and CVC is excited to support him in reaching his goals.
These two applicants will be honored during the annual CVC Fall Waterways Cleanup Celebration at Wasena Park on Oct 3rd, 2015 or at the November 19th Earth Summit. Friends and families of these inspiring individuals are invited to attend the celebration. We are so pleased that CVC is able to help both of these fine young individuals as they pursue their educations and future environmental professions or activities.
CVC is pleased to offer these two ADM scholarships again in 2016. Application announcements will be made next spring.
