Citizens throughout the
Roanoke Valley are invited to rid their homes of poisons, flammables,
corrosives and other materials by bringing them to the Household
Hazardous Waste Collection Days listed above. The collection will be held at the Roanoke Valley Resource
Authority 12:00 -3:00 p.m. rain or shine.
This free event sponsored
by the County of Roanoke, City of Roanoke, Town of Vinton and Botetourt
County, will allow residents to dispose of items in an environmentally
responsible manner. PLEASE DO NOT BRING REGULAR HOUSEHOLD WASTE.
WHAT YOU CAN BRING
-
Latex and oil paints
in any size can. Paint can be liquid or dried.
-
Aerosol cans of any
kind
-
Paint-related
products, such as paint thinner, stains, turpentine, polyurethane,
polishes and acetone
-
Automotive products,
including motor oil, brake fluid, antifreeze and gasoline
-
Any battery, from car
and truck batteries to button batteries, lead acid batteries,
alkaline batteries, nickel cadmium batteries and lithium batteries
-
Propane gas cylinders,
20 pound and 30 pound
-
Mercury debris
(including thermometers)
-
Gardening supplies,
such as solid or liquid pesticides, insecticides, herbicides and
fertilizers
-
Household cleaners,
such as bleach, oven cleaners, bathroom cleaners and any other
alkaline/corrosive or acid cleaner
-
Polychlorinated
biphenols (PCBs, for example, electrical switches and ballasts)
-
Fluorescent bulbs
WHAT YOU CAN NOT
BRING

Tires
-
Explosives
-
Medical or radioactive
waste (including smoke detectors). These wastes can not be accepted.

COMMERCIAL WASTE
WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
Not sure what you've got?
If you have some "unknown," unlabeled wastes lurking under the sink or
in the basement, chemists on site can test their contents.
