WE HEAR YOU! You Have Latex Paint
to dispose of and you want to know how to do so if you are moving or if it is
cluttering up your garage, basement, etc.
Here are some tips for left over paint.
- First, has it frozen? If yes - you can't use it again.
We call it buttermilk, it is now no longer any good.- it has frozen.
- If not... put a good amount in a glass jar to keep
handy inside for touch ups. Sponge the paint
on instead of brushing or washing. Great for finger prints
in halls; you are adding paint instead of washing it off.
- If you are a keeper of paint in the can,
seal the lid well and place upside down for a better seal. It will keep better. The skin that
forms will be on the bottom when you open it.
- Use it up.
- Give it away to the church or local theater.
- Recycle through your local
household hazardous waste day.
( This is your answer for oil base paints.)
- Dry up your latex paint for a final resolution,
leave it open and toss when dry with the lid off into the trash it is now a solid. Keep it somewhere
away from pets and children. You can speed up the drying process with sawdust or kitty litter.
- Now, don't over buying paint and keep it in a
moderate tempertured site for reuse.
- Organize a neighborhood paint
swap one Saturday afternoon. It is a good way to get just what you want for that bookcase that
needs painting! A good time is after the neighborhood litter clean up day
