What Can I Recycle?
Roanoke City
The City of Roanoke offers curbside recycling collection to every city resident. Roanoke City service recycling pick-up on the same day as your trash service. New bins are available to recycling households.
Call 853-2000 to have a recycling bin delivered to your home.
One week is "Bottles and Cans Week". The city will collect colored glass bottles, aluminum and steel ("tin") cans, and #1 through #7 plastics. Please rinse all items before placing them in the bins. Please no styrofoam. NO SORTING IS REQUIRED!
The next week is "Paper Week." The city will collect office paper, junk mail, magazines, newspapers, chipboard boxes (cereal, cake mix, pasta, gift,etc.), and collapsed corrugated boxes. Please no greasy pizza boxes. NO SORTING IS REQUIRED!
Roanoke County
All Roanoke County Recycling Centers offer mixed paper recycling, aluminum, and plastics #1 - #7 (excluding styrofoam). If bins are full, please do not set recyclable materials outside! Simply wait until the bin is emptied.
Cox Communications
The County of Roanoke in cooperation with Cox Communications has a recycling location available at the Cox Communications building on Fallowater Lane in southwest Roanoke County. The container is usually emptied on Mondays and Thursdays.
Hollins University
The North County location for recycling is located on the campus of Hollins University. Upon entering the campus, follow the recycling signs on West Campus Drive to the drop-off site. The container is usually emptied on Mondays and Thursdays.
Hidden Valley High School
Hidden Valley High School is located in Southwest Roanoke County at 5000 Titan Trail. The container is emptied daily (Monday through Friday).
Hidden Valley Middle School - HAS BEEN MOVED TO COX COMMUNICATIONS
Glenvar Middle School
Glenvar Middle School is located in West Roanoke County at 4555 Malus Drive, Salem. The container is usually emptied on Wednesdays.
William Byrd Middle School
William Byrd Middle School is located in East Roanoke County at 2910 Washington Ave, Vinton. The container is usually emptied on Mondays.
GLASS RECYCLING: Recycling and Disposal Solutions (RDS) of Roanoke will accept glass bottles and jars (all colors) from all residents in Roanoke and Botetourt Counties. RDS currently receives glass bottles and jars as part of a contract with the city of Roanoke.

Botetourt County
Recycling convenience centers are located:
Elementary Schools: Breckinridge, Buchanan, Cloverdale, Colonial, Eagle Rock, Greenfield, Troutville. Please recycled mixed paper, plastics #1 and #2, metal and tin cans.
High Schools: Lord Botetourt: accepts mixed paper, plastics #1 and #2 and metal and tin cans.
James River: #1 & #2 plastic only
Botetourt County Citizen Convenience Center. Offers a wide range of recycling options including mixed paper, plastics #1 & #2, plastic bags, tin &aluminum cans, household hazardous waste, and electronic waste.

City of Salem
The City of Salem offers several convenient recycling sites, including two full service drop-off centers. One is located on Indiana street across from the Street & General Maintainence Department, and the other is loocated in the Wal-Mart parking lot on West Main Street. One convienent newspaper-only drop-off site is located in the parking lot adjacent to the City's Court House on Calhoun Street.
The full service centers accepts: Plastics #1 and #2, aluminum, bi-metal cans, mixed-paper and newspaper
Cycle Systems
2580 Broadway Ave, Roanoke, VA (near Towers Mall). Open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week.
