About The Event

Guest speaker Cherrel Manley, an environmental epidemiology doctoral student at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, will discuss what microplastics are, their sources - ranging from plastic waste breakdown to industrial processes - and how they enter our environment, food, and water.

She will examine the known impacts on ecosystems, wildlife, and human health, and discuss practical steps individuals and communities can take to reduce exposure and mitigate environmental harm.

Star City Sustainability Series programs are free and open to the public. Registration is required. Clean Valley Council is located at Heights Community Church. This event will be in the Welcome Center.

Cherrel's research explores exposures to environmental contaminants and impacts on human health. Currently, she is working to complete her dissertation, which focuses on exposure to drinking water contaminants during pregnancy and impacts on pregnancy outcomes.
